The gasket consists of two separate parts; a fixed part, attached to the rim tube by a flexible rubber hose, with a wear-resistant carbon fibre surface and a steel counterpart, rotating with the shaft, attached to the propeller shaft. The opposing parts of the seal are pressed against each other by means of a shark-like rubber hose.
The seal is lubricated and cooled by water from the rim pipe or from the auxiliary water supply. No lubricating greases or oils are used.
The PSS shaft seal is one of the world's leading sealing designs and is used in installations by many of the world's most prestigious boatbuilders and shipyards.
An excellent choice for retrofitting to replace an old shaft seal. The advantages of the PSS seal are 100% tightness, ease of maintenance, virtually maintenance-free, no wear on the shaft and ease of installation.
PSS gaskets are approved by Bureau Veritas, ABS and RINA.
Structure and function of the PSS seal

Two nitrile O-rings seal the stainless steel rotor to the shaft. |

The retaining and locking screws lock the rotor to the propeller shaft. |

The sealing surface is between the carbon fibre surface and the steel counterpart. |

The water needed for cooling and lubricating the sealing surfaces is supplied from the bath pipe or, if necessary, via an additional water supply connection. |
5.
The fixed carbon statator is attached to the rim tube with a gooseneck. |
