Water Seals for a Boat's Exhaust System

Water lock to be connected to a boat's drain hose

The water trap used in a boat’s exhaust system is an important safety device that protects the engine. It typically prevents cooling water from the wet exhaust system from flowing back into the engine. The water trap collects any water remaining in the pipe after the engine is shut off and also acts as an effective muffler.

When the engine is shut off, it is important that the water trap has sufficient capacity so that the water in the exhaust hose cannot flow back into the engine. Sometimes the exhaust system is so long that a larger-capacity water trap must be used.

Vetus equipment Our selection includes water seals in a variety of models and sizes for exhaust systems on recreational and commercial boats of all sizes. Our selection also includes combined water trap/muffler models featuring a sturdy rubber body and steel end caps. The water trap is selected based on the length of the exhaust system and the diameter of the exhaust hose. The boat’s layout and the water lock’s installation location should also be taken into account when selecting a water lock.
