Good to know about boat ventilation

Ventilation is an essential part of comfort and safety on board. A fresh, well-ventilated cabin is pleasant to spend time in, and bright, frost-free windows are also a part of safety. Visibility through the windows is important, especially in the cabin. Adequate ventilation in the engine room is also important for fire safety and other reasons.

Pressure ventilation, or natural ventilation, is based on correctly positioned open valves through which air is circulated by the wind. For example swan neck valves are quite effective for implementing gravity ventilation. Most models can be rotated to the desired position to improve circulation.

Mechanical ventilation works as its name suggests with electric fans. In particular, the engine compartment must be carefully ventilated, especially in the case of petrol engines. Ventilation fans are certified and spark-proof.
