Wet Exhaust System for Boats – A Safe, Quiet, and Efficient Solution

Boat diesel engines commonly use a wet exhaust system, in which cooling water is mixed with the exhaust gases. This solution reduces the exhaust gas temperature from over 600 °C to approximately 40–50 °C, which improves safety, reduces noise, and simplifies installation.

A typical wet exhaust system:

• ✓ Exhaust hose – safely directs exhaust gases and cooling water out of the boat.
• ✓ Water trap – prevents water from flowing back into the engine and also effectively dampens noise from the exhaust system.
• ✓ Silencer – effectively dampens noise from the exhaust system.
• ✓ Combined Water Trap/Silencer– designed to effectively dampen sound in conjunction with the water seal feature
• ✓ Swan Neck – Raise the exhaust hose above the waterline to prevent water from flowing back into the stern.
• ✓ Feed-through – completes the system and safely directs the exhaust gases outside the boat.

Prevent water from flowing back into the machine – Installation of the engine and exhaust system above or below the waterline
The position of the engine's exhaust curve relative to the waterline is of great importance.
If the discharge pipe is located at least 15 cm above the waterline, the raw water can often be connected directly to the discharge pipe. However, if the discharge point is less than 15 cm above the waterline, water may enter the machine due to the siphon effect. The siphon effect can be prevented by installing a separate anti-siphon valve.
